Math in Modular Origami
Here are some of my interesting mathematical questions surrounding modular origami.
Piece Design
No matter how the piece is designed, the vast majority of modular origami units contain pockets and connectors that can be inserted into each other. Angle problems arise when we consider how the pieces fit together.
- Penultimate unit trigonometry
- Folding exact angles (no trigonometric estimations)
The second link will discuss more general methods beyond Penultimate units.
Colorings and Structural Symmetry
Combinatorial questions arise when we assemble units of different colors together. Naturally, we would want to arrange the colors in some sort of symmetric way.

- Counting colorings of polyhedra: How many ways can we color the units of a polyhedral model?
